UK seeks to expand energy cooperation with Algeria to renewables

UK MINISTER FOR MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA ALISTAIR BURT ON VISIT TO ALGERIA

ALGIERS- The United Kingdom will enhance its energy cooperation with Algeria, especially in the renewable energies, said Monday in Algiers UK Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa Alistair Burt.

"UK seeks to broaden its energy cooperation with Algeria, which was devoted only to gas and oil, to include renewable energy," Burt said on the sidelines of the first Algerian-British Forum on sustainable partnership in renewables and energy efficiency.

The opening session was marked by the presence of Minister of National Planning, Environment and the City Amara Benyounes.

The British participants proposed their "expertise" in refuse disposal, energy efficiency and solar energy, said Burt.

They also intend to share their know-how with Algeria as part of the national programme for renewable energy development, through a "partnership based on mutual support."
